NTBackup is a utility in the Windows NT systems that is used to create routine backups of valuable data in the form of BKF files. You can take the backup in various modes such as differential, incremental, etc and in various storage media as well. Cause:
One of the main problems for this situation is that you are trying to restore the BKF file using a USB tape drive that uses the USB storage driver (Usbstor.sys). When this storage driver is used, it faces the I/O queuing issues that result in failed restoration process. The other reason for this problem is that the BKF file is corrupt.
Resolution:
To resolve this problem, check if you have the copy of the data of which you took the backup. If yes, then you can use that data. Or else, you should download and install Windows XP Service Pack 2 as a hotfix for this problem. Now, try to restore the BKF file using the NTBackup utility.
However, if the BKF file is still not getting restored then chances are that the BKF file is corrupt. To restore the BKF file, you should use a third-party BKF recovery software to repair BKF file. These BKF repair tools are read-only in nature that do not overwrite the original data.
