BKF Corrupted due to Application Malfunction

Windows Backup Utility - NTBackup.exe is a data protection tool that can be used to create a copy of data files, Windows registry, and system state in a proprietary file format, the BKF file format. If any kind of data loss occurs, one can restore lost data either manually or by using Windows Restore Wizard. The Restore Wizard accesses the BKF file and restores all the contained data. Care should be taken that while this wizard is accessing the file, there should be no interruption. A disrupted restore can otherwise, corrupt the BKF file and further necessitate BKF Recovery.

A BKF restore might get disrupted due to many reasons. One of them being application malfunction.

Consider the following scenario that elaborates this kind of problem.

You create a BKF file using NTBack utility that preserves most of your important files and folders on an external storage media. An operating system crash occurs and you need to restore data lost in this event from the BKF file. Thus, you connect the media to the computer and attempt to restore data. While the 'Restore Wizard' is reading the file, the application crashes. The next time, you try to perform similar operation on the same or different computer, the BKF appears to be corrupted. Additionally, it prompts an error message:

“An inconsistency was encountered in the requested backup file.”

Consequently, you cannot restore lost data.

Cause
The application might crash down due to issues like, virus infection.

Solution
To remove virus infection, you should scan your computer using a powerful anti-virus application.

However, to restore lost data, you should check if another backup containing required files and folders exists. If not, you need to repair the corrupted BKF file.

A corrupted BKF file can be repaired using a third-party BKF Repair Tool. Powerful BKF file repair software can scan a damaged and inaccessible NTBackup file and restore original contents to a safe location. The BKF Recovery software are easily installable and operable, and do not demand any prior technical knowledge for using.
